Who We Are

Habitat for Humanity of Lackawanna County (HFHLC) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation that seeks to provide decent, affordable housing and the opportunity for homeownership to economically disadvantaged families residing in Lackawanna County. HFHLC was organized in 1990 and became an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International in 1991. In 2007, after a period of inactivity, HFHLC was reorganized with a new board of directors. Utilizing volunteer labor and donations that come in the form of money, new building materials, construction equipment and tools; HFHLC builds simple, modest houses with the help of the selected homeowner families. Habitat houses are sold to families at no profit and are financed with affordable loans. Monthly mortgage payments from homeowners are used to build more Habitat houses. To date, HFHLC has provided homes for 28 families in Lackawanna County.

Our Mission

Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry that seeks to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the world and make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action.
